Baby is not wanting to be born

Lara is now 8 days overdue.  Not much that can be done but wait around and get frustrated.  The later is more poor Lara’s feeling. We have been eating a hell a lot of curry

In fact I am pretty sick of the stuff, the novelty has been lost!

Lara is now on maternity leave.  She keep herself busy whilst I go to work.  thankfully Lainie is still on maternity leave and will remain that way for a good while yet so Lara has a play mate and coffee buddy!  Yesterday we went for a walk along the beach and went past a children’s play ground.  Lara is motivated to try anything to help the baby think it is time to come out…….

So we spent a good ten minutes on the See saw!  Lara is booked into the local maternity ward for 10am on Friday for her to be induced if the baby decides it wants to still not come out to play.  This is not how we wanted to go, but we are never the end decision maker in this.  We have to go with what the baby wants as there is no real way to influence it.

I have already told it through the belly this morning that I was not happy with it and it is grounded for the first 2 weeks of it’s life on earth and that tardiness is not a trate we will stand for.  I can just see images of it in the womb giving me the birdie.

Will keep this blog updated as to as and when it happens.  But at least the end is in sight now, I can pretty confidently say that I will be a dad in 6 days time.  Thank you all for your messages of good luck, i am going to need them, Lara on the other hand I think will be fine.  Lara has told me she thinks I am going to be a blubbering mess.  I was offended to learn she thinks that of me.

Still waiting

It has now turned into a waiting game,  with the arrival of ‘mini us’ due on the 29th.  They can decide they want out and join us on the outside anytime now, so we are both on red alert.  Hot curries most evenings are not helping to speed things up.

So what do you do at weekends when you are waiting for your wife to drop one?…. well, the answer is not a lot really.  We went to Bennachie as it was a nice day and did one of the orienteering courses which was enjoyable.  It was a pleasant day and was good pratice with a map and compass, it took us to some parts of the woods we have never been to before.

It gave lara some much needed fresh air as I think she is now very bored of being big and uncomfortable.

We are planning on trying for a home birth,  she is in a category that are allowed to try home delivery as she has had a simple pregnancy with no complications.  We have a room ready to go covered up ready to make a mess in.  We have had two gas cannisters full of gas and air, had morphine delivered which is now sitting in the fridge and the midwifes on speed dial…..

It is a waiting game, a boring, fustrating, now tedious waiting game.  We both want to get on with being parents and playing with our son /daughter.  Oh well, nothing we can do but….. yup you guest it, wait.

The hardest thing to admit as a bloke

A little while ago, for some reason that has escaped me, I entered a half marathon.  I have no delusions of being a good runner, in fact I am pretty much the complete opposite!  My legs are conditioned for biking.  Running uses pretty much the opposite muscles in the legs than cycling do.

I was keen to get out and do some running, having suffered from a bad back the last two weeks, I did not want to get out and run too far so that I did not re-agitate my back.  I asked Matt if he wanted to come along as well and keep me company (Matt has started running recently as Emma is doing the half marathon with me so he is running with her)

We chose Durris Hill as I fancied running off road and it was half way in between our houses.  I had a quick look at some maps online and had drawn out a route that was roughly 6-8km.  I sold Matt on the idea and we met in the car park.

The above is the route I had drawn out.  Because the 1:50’000 maps don’t show the paths I managed to print of a basic and poor quality 1:25’000.  After the customary faffy in the car park we were off.  We had both roughly committed the route to memory.

The sun was shining amazingly despite the rubbish forecast and off we went.  we both have running GPS watches (not navigational) which tells every bit of information we could possibly want, so at regular intervals we were being geeks

“my heart rate is at 87% of the max, what is yours?  Wow that is interesting Dave, mine is 86% of max, wow Matt we are really cool aren’t we” and on it went.

We got to one really steep hill, I being my normal stubborn self was not planning on giving up running up it, that was until I noticed Matt had started walking and was going the same pace as me.  I conceded.

After a while it started to feel like we were making the map fit, things did not feel right.  Oh well, lets just go a bit further and see if we can work it out.  After about  5minutes of features that should have been appearing not, we had to do one of the hardest things known to man,  it hurt us greatly.  Like a knife to the side.

“I think we are lost”

My map I had printed was useless.  We had to use our inbuilt man compasses.   We roughly knew the direction we had parked the car and off we went running.  The geeky heart rate max comparisons soon stopped and turned into “my knees hurt”  “I am thirsty” “leave me, save yourself” “tell my family I love them” type conversations

Eventually we found our way out of the woods and worked out where we where when we hit the road.  Below is a map of where we actually went with the original route drawn on for comparson.

So we ended up running just over 15kms.  Pair of total and utter pillocks.  We had to walk back along the road for another 4km to the car as our legs were shot.  This was the longest both Matt and I had ever run.  I am pretty dam stiff and sore writing this!  But it has given me some more confidence for the half marathon in 3 weeks.  Before I t hought I had no chance, now, I think I might actually have a chance in getting around!

Cheers Matt for not leaving me in the woods.

Baby Brain?

So it has started.  Lara tried to swipe her credt card in the gym entry system yesterday…..

I will make sure I keep you all updated future baby brain moments! tee hee hee I am a bad husband!

Update at last!

I know, I know – I have been really slack at keeping this up to date apart form a skanky picture of a broken toe.  I only put that up as I was seeing if I could update this thing from my phone (and obviously I can).

So what has happened over the last 2 odd months?  Well a lot were do I start, with the boring stuff I suppose.  We sold our house on Crombie Drive.  I all went a little Pete Tong when our mortgage fell through just as we were suppose to exchange contracts.  We moved out and put our stuff into storage and went and kipped on our friend’s floor (thank you frank we are still very grateful).  We moved into the house 3 weeks ago, and have ever since been spending my evenings doing DIY.  The house is getting near to a decent state and most things are unpacked and have a place allocated for them to be put. A few odds and sods left but apart from that it is great.  I will take pictures and post them up soon of the house.

The new house is only about 600m form the old one, it is only 3 years old and does not need any work doing to it other than a lick of paint.  An easy home to move into and I think I will be a great place to stay.

Peace be with you man….. love the world, and mother nature…. man.

Update on the detox:

My life as a vegan is not as bad as I thought it was going to be.  Thankfully the meat withdrawal symptoms were I was willing to kill anything that cast its own shadow are gone.  Now, I am at ease with myself and have made peace with my new vegetable friends.  The idea of a bunch of vegetables and seeds for lunch does not anger me.  The only difficulty I have found this week is actually getting food that I am allowed to eat quick and easily.  I went into tescos yesterday lunch time as the work restaurant only was serving steak and salmon (oh the irony) and I had to walk around for about 15 minutes before I found enough food that I though would suffice my hunger and cravings.  I look like a real teenage girl reading all the food labels and scanning for ingredients.

The above is what I ended up with – Carrots, Red Pepper, humus (my saviour of the week), mini plum tomatoes, dried mango, pumpkins seeds and a litre of strawberry smoothie.  Obviously I didn’t eat all of it as that would be greedy, but I needed a mix of tastes to satisfy my cravings.

One bit of advice I would give to anyone doing this sort of madness in the future is that smoothies are the mutz nutz at helping you cure that post main meal sugar craving.  When normally I would be reaching for a Kitkat or cake, some smoothie seems to satisfy my sweet tooth.

Thankfully Lara is a great cook, the evening meals are great – we have had chilli, Thai green curry stir fries and ratatouille.  All tasty and would be great in a ‘normal’ eating week.

Another observation I have made this week is how little I have been eating and how I am surviving no worries.  My energy levels are the same, I think I am sleeping a bit longer but nothing horrendous.  It really shows how much of a pig I am.  The concept of eating until not hungry is one I should adopt rather than the ‘eat until I physically can not fit anything else in’ approach which is usually quickly followed with the bloated feeling.

Not sure by the end of the week I will be ‘cleansed’ or have a ‘centralised Zen euphoric energy state’ but I have learnt a few things about my eating habits and food in general.

  1. I eat too much.
  2. Never take steak for granted, enjoy every one of them as you never know when your wife might take them away from you!!!!

Peace and love to the world

What is my wife doing to me?!?!?!?

For some unknown reason to me, Lara has decided it is a great idea to do a detox week.  I though no real hassle, I don’t drink that much any way and a week off the beer will be no hassle.  So I agree to doing the detox.

After agree’ing to this week, I then receive an email from her stating the “forbidden” foods for the week.

Meat & Fish – all kinds

Dairy – Milk, Cheese, yoghurt etc

Eggs

Bread –wheat based

Cakes pastries pies etc

Sugary Cereals – plain cornflakes are allowed but you can’t put milk on!

Battered and Bread crumbed Foods

Salted nuts

Chocolate

Jam

Sugar

Processed foods

Sauces

Alcohol

Coffee and tea

Gerkins  Salad Dressings – other than home made

 Mayonnaise & salad cream

 Salt

 Fizzy pop

And anything else that is tasty”

Well what the hell is left to eat!!!!!!  So basically for the next week I am going to be living like some flower loving smelly hippy on a vegan Diet.  Oh how I love my Porridge in the morning made with water and nothing else in it!!!  lunch – mmmmmm  dry salad.

Thankfully Lara is a bit of a saviour in the evening and makes tasty meals, I had some variety of chili last night, with beans and pulses and lentils, was rather tasty.

I found fruit smoothies a good way to tame the urge for sweet puddings after your main meals.  If nothign this week will teach me to make food tasty with out the need to throw sugar at it or some equally un healthy processed substance.  Tomorrow’s porridge with have dried cherries and cashew nuts in it.

It is going to be an interesting week, I do however feel a need to apologise to my work mates, as last night Chili has made me absolutely howling!!!!!!!  best way to get a private room in the office I think!  Will keep you updated on the week!

Breaking the Silence

“David would like to publically state why there has been no updates,   – so I was busy.”   Over the last few weeks I have written nothing on here. mainly due to there being not much to write about.  The weather has been harsh and we have been busy so no real adventures.  We did however adventure into Aberdeen town centre shopping last Saturday which was rather scary.  Managed to buy half of boots supply of immodium in preparation for next weeks ‘excitable’ toilet goings on.

Tonight is going to be spent packing for going skiing in Kashmir tomorrow, both Lara and I are very excited.  Praying on the snow gods to smile upon us, and praying on the stomach gods not to do anything funky.

Rest assured that there will be a lot of pictures and maybe even a video on our return (I have bought a helmet cam).  till then……
